What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin shells typically made from durable porcelain or ceramic, which reflect light similarly to natural enamel. These restorations are customized to match the shade, size, and shape of your teeth, and are then cemented to their front surfaces. They can be carefully positioned to hide one or several aesthetic concerns. such as:
- Cracks
- Chips
- Dental Discoloration
- Mild Gaps
- Slight Misalignments
Furthermore, they’re less porous than natural enamel, so they’re less likely to become stained, and they can’t develop cavities. They’re also coated with a glaze durable enough to resist some damage and discoloration as well as help shield the underlying tooth.
The Process of Getting Veneers
It might vary slightly depending on your individual circumstances, but usually it takes at least a couple of visits over a few weeks to get veneers. You must start by consulting one of our providers to determine whether you’re a good candidate. Our team will examine your mouth and treat any pre-existing problems, like cavities or gum disease, that could interfere with your cosmetics.
Then, if we verify this is the best way to help you achieve your smile goals, we’ll need to prepare your teeth so the shells fit correctly. This involves numbing the area with a local anesthetic and/or providing sedation to help you feel comfortable, followed by the removal of a small amount of enamel. Next, we’ll make impressions that will be sent to local dental labs (or, in some cases, our in-house dental lab) to begin designing your restorations.
It can sometimes take a week or two for the final product to be delivered, but we can provide a temporary set to safeguard your smile while you wait. When they arrive, we’ll schedule a final fitting and cement them in place before polishing your recently enhanced smile until it shines.

- Enhanced confidence. Enhancing your appearance can boost your self-esteem, which helps improve your daily quality of life.
- Easy to clean. Maintaining these prosthetics is as simple as brushing and flossing twice daily, avoiding overly dark, hard, or sticky foods, and visiting our team every six months for a routine checkup and cleaning.
- Long-lasting solution. These shells are known to last 20+ years if they’re cared for correctly.
Understanding the Cost of Veneers
Most dental insurance companies consider veneers to be a cosmetic service that’s meant to improve your looks more than your oral health, and so they don’t cover the cost. However, there may be exceptions, such as when this treatment is deemed medically necessary to protect your smile, so it’s worth checking the details of your policy.
If you’re uninsured or your plan doesn’t include this service, don’t be discouraged. Our team in Ocoee believes everyone deserves a healthy, beautiful smile they can feel proud of, regardless of their financial situation. That’s why we offer flexible payment plans through third-party vendors, Cherry, Proceed Finance, or CareCredit. If your application is approved, you can divide your total invoice into more manageable installments over a designated period.
Veneer FAQs
Are Veneers Permanent?
No, veneers are not technically permanent because they will eventually need to be replaced. The procedure itself, however, is irreversible. That’s because to ensure that your veneers fit properly on your teeth, your dentist must remove small amounts of enamel to reshape them, and enamel does not grow back.
For this reason, any teeth that have been prepared this way will always need to be covered with either veneers or crowns.
What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?
The great news is that your veneers themselves will not harm your teeth, and only a minimal amount of enamel will need to be removed to reshape them. Furthermore, the bonding material used to attach the restoration is completely safe.
Because the enamel is then covered by the veneer, the procedure will not increase your risk of cavities. However, you still do need to brush and floss your teeth regularly to prevent tooth decay from occurring underneath the veneers. Thankfully, you can protect your teeth and your veneers with the same oral hygiene practices: brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, limit the amount of sugar you consume, and visit your dentist regularly for your preventive oral health exams and cleanings.
Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Veneers?
When you are wearing temporary veneers in the weeks before your permanent restorations are made, you should avoid hard foods like ice, raw fruits and vegetables, and hard candy that could break them. You should also avoid anything too sticky that could pull them off your teeth. Temporary veneers also stain more easily, so be careful when eating or drinking anything darkly pigmented.
Once your permanent veneers are in place, you can enjoy most food; however, you should still try to avoid anything extremely hard or crunchy, as well as any dark beverages that could cause stains.
Furthermore, be careful to only drink alcohol sparingly, as this can weaken the bonding material holding your veneers in place.
Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?
The great news is that veneers that are made of porcelain are stain resistant. Porcelain is a non-porous material, so the particles in dark-colored foods and beverages have a harder time getting beneath the surface. This means you can enjoy beverages like coffee without worrying too much about staining your veneers.
Be aware however that your veneers are not completely stain proof, so excessive consumption of coffee or any other dark food or beverage could still have a negative impact. Thus, be sure to only consume these products in moderation if you want your restorations to look their best for as long as possible!
